The Senior Revenue Cycle Reporting Analyst plays a critical role in optimizing financial performance by leveraging data analysis and reporting to improve revenue cycle efficiency and effectiveness. They work closely with various departments to identify and address issues impacting revenue, ensure compliance with billing regulations, and contribute to data-driven decision-making.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Analyzes complex revenue cycle data to identify trends, variances, and areas for improvement.
- Tracks and monitors key performance indicators (KPIs) such as denial rates, days in accounts receivable (AR), and collection percentages, comparing them against industry benchmarks.
- Investigates and analyzes claim denials to determine root causes, develop solutions to reduce future denials, and appeal underpaid claims.
- Evaluates and recommends improvements to existing revenue cycle processes, ensuring compliance with regulations and best practices.
- Designs, develops, and maintains various reports and dashboards to track performance, identify issues, and provide actionable insights to leadership.
- Prepares ad-hoc analysis for claims and KPIs for revenue cycle.
- Write customized SQL reports as needed to explore multiple data sources to mine for opportunities to improve revenue cycle.
- Works collaboratively with other departments, such as billing, coding, and patient access, to address revenue cycle challenges and implement solutions.
- Build strong and trusting relationships with leaders to support problem resolution and ensure overall awareness of medical cost issues and challenges.
- Stays informed about healthcare billing regulations and compliance requirements to ensure accurate and compliant billing practices.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as required, assigned, or requested.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, accounting, finance, or related field of study or equivalent.
- Minimum of five (5) years of data, financial or business analysis experience
- Prior experience in revenue management, patient financial services and/or health information systems.
- Experience analyzing EMR (Athena) billing data, a plus
- Expertise in database queriers; SQL or other reporting languages
- Microsoft Office Suite (PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, Word, Teams)
- Strong analytical and research skills.
- Excellent understanding of revenue cycle management.
- Highly motivated, self-starter.
