Our mission at Oura is to empower every person to own their inner potential. Our award-winning products help our global community gain a deeper knowledge of their readiness, activity, and sleep quality by using their Oura Ring and its connected app. We've helped over one million people understand and improve their health by providing daily insights and practical steps to inspire healthy lifestyles.

Empowering the world starts with living our values and empowering our team. As a quickly growing company focused on helping people live healthier and happier lives, we ensure that our team members have what they need to do their best work — both in and out of the office.

In the US, Oura has offices in San Francisco and San Diego. We also support hybrid and remote work in locations throughout the US.

We are looking for a Director of Employee Learning and Development to drive the evolution of Oura’s employee education programs, including manager training, leadership development, onboarding, focused skill-building, soft skills training, mentoring, and more in a global multicultural organizational setting. They will collaborate with colleagues in the People team, leaders from all functional areas, and training professionals throughout the company to understand learning needs and develop and implement programs to meet those needs in different contexts Oura employees come from.

This is a pivotal role at an essential time for Oura. Establishing effective practices and programs for employee learning and development will support the growth of our business as well as the professional development of our people globally. To align with and reinforce Oura’s culture, learning and development programs should be efficient, using time and money wisely, and provide opportunities for continuous improvement by seeking out and acting on feedback.

This person will have the opportunity to hire and lead a small team, starting with one approved hire for 2024. The ideal candidate will lead through influence and excel through collaboration.

This is a full-time, hybrid, or mostly remote role based in the US. It requires regular real-time interaction (via video or phone) with colleagues in Finland (Eastern European time zone) and throughout the continental US. This role will require travel to Oura locations and may include international travel.

What you will do:

  • Capture Quick Wins: Conduct a rapid Learning and Development needs assessment and execute a plan to capture low-hanging fruit, e.g., within the first ninety days
  • Create the Roadmap: Building on the rapid needs assessment and lessons learned in the first quarter, develop a comprehensive learning strategy and roadmap for the coming year
  • Design and Deliver Programs: Create engaging and effective training programs for Ouranians, addressing such topics as delivering feedback, project management, communication and presentation techniques, conflict resolution, organizational design and problem-solving. Utilize various training methodologies, including classroom sessions, e-learning modules, role-playing exercises, and on-the-job training.
  • Enable a Learning Community: Engage Ouranians as learners, teachers, mentors and coaches. Provide templates and basic instructional design support to encourage people to teach what they know, and enhance a culture of lifelong learning

Measure Impact and Drive Continuous Improvement: Develop and implement methods to assess the effectiveness of training programs. Collect and analyze data to identify areas for improvement and opportunities for efficiency.

Requirements

We’d love to consider you for this role if you have:

  • An extensive track record of developing and delivering training programs for a variety of audiences, including programs designed for scale in a high growth and fast-paced environment
  • Strong knowledge of instructional design principles and adult learning theories
  • Experience in building, managing, and leading teams
  • Ability to lead through influence
  • Demonstrated ability to operate flexibly as a player-coach
  • Analytical skills; comfort with using data to understand and explain program rationale and impact
  • Strong project management skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Experience in designing and delivering programs to a global, distributed, and hybrid workforce

Bonus points for:

  • Experience with learning management systems (LMS), HR-related systems, and other learning technologies
  • Designing programs for employee populations with English as a second language and different cultural backgrounds

The successful candidate will be able to draw on their deep and broad professional experience, which may include HR, program design and management, or other professional experience in addition to learning and development. To achieve this depth and breadth, we anticipate that candidates will have a minimum of ten years of experience, including several years in a high growth and fast-paced environment.
