Role Summary

Reporting to the Director of Software Development, the Product Operations Engineer is an essential member of our development team, responsible for ensuring the day-to-day operation of our product. This person will work closely with Product Design and Product Management, Customer Experience, Operations, and on-call response teams to create and meet key performance indicators (KPIs) and service-level objectives (SLOs) for our product.

What You Will Do

  • Establish, monitor, and enforce KPIs and SLOs measuring the operational health of the member experience.
  • Ensure business logic is behaving as expected across all user-facing features.
  • Triage bugs and service degradation, implementing fixes, writing and running scripts, and escalating issues with the rest of the development team.
  • Monitor third-party integrations, planning for and mitigating outages.
  • Ensure incentives are awarding as expected and funnel conversion is operating within normal parameters.
  • Maintain, update, and certify operational documentation.
  • Model and create tooling, simulations, and reporting in support of above.
  • Report incidents, conduct retrospectives, and ensure completion of follow-up items.

Requirements

  • 2+ years professional experience in a development role; ability to debug in order to triage and troubleshoot independently.
  • Excellent understanding of the member-facing product in order to translate product requirements into monitoring and alerting.
  • SQL proficiency in order to identify anomalies compared to specifications in production data.
  • Competency in one or more server- or client-side programming languages (e.g., Python, JavaScript) in order to do a first pass at potential issues in code.
  • Forward-looking mindset in order to anticipate potential future problems rather than simply react to existing ones.
  • Strong written and verbal communication in order to generate clear documentation and craft persuasive arguments in the face of competing priorities.
  • “Productive laziness” in order to automate oneself out of a job and move on to another.
  • Nice to haves:
    • Full-stack development experience in Python, TypeScript, or React.
    • Experience in home energy or IoT industries.
