The story of MedStar Health began in 1998, born from a visionary merger between two regional healthcare powerhouses: Helix Health in Baltimore and Medlantic Healthcare Group in Washington, D.C. This strategic union was designed to bridge the gap between two major metropolitan areas, creating a unified system capable of delivering comprehensive care across the entire mid-Atlantic region. Originally established to strengthen community access to medical excellence, the organization was officially renamed MedStar Health in 1999, marking the start of a new era in regional healthcare delivery.

Over the decades, MedStar Health has evolved from a collection of hospitals into a vast, integrated healthcare system that stands as the largest provider in Maryland and the Washington, D.C., region. Today, the organization encompasses ten hospitals, hundreds of outpatient care sites, and a robust research institute.
