Lovevery is one of the fastest-growing consumer subscription businesses in the country and we are looking for an experienced Director of Software Engineering to lead our global team of 25+ Software Engineers, owning our e-commerce platform, web and mobile experiences.

About the role:

It is critical for us to deliver a digital product experience that is as meaningful as the physical product experience our customers get from Lovevery. To do that well, we need an enthusiastic, results-driven Director with proven e-commerce experience. In this role, you will own the entire stack across every aspect of our customer journey from product discovery to becoming a subscriber, to engaging with our rich, stage-based parent education platform. You will encourage your team to keep a platform focus in mind - scaling our global audience to millions of customers and continuously looking for opportunities to enhance our technology, increase velocity and maintain a high quality bar. The ideal candidate is a self-motivated leader, an exceptional communicator, a sought-after cross-functional collaborator, and has a proven track record of engineering excellence.

About You:

  • Strategic Planning: Develop a deep understanding and ownership of our key business metrics. Combine that understanding with creative thinking and a solutions-oriented mindset to act as a thought leader within the team; recommending and prioritizing areas of work that will drive the biggest ROI. Ensure your teams build thoughtful roadmaps and consistently execute against them to drive overall company goals and objectives.
  • Technical Strategy: Develop strategic plans for Engineering, drive key architecture and platform decisions.
  • Up-leveling Engineering Best Practices and Quality: Ensure the highest standards of quality, reliability, security, and usability in software solutions through rigorous automated testing, code reviews, user acceptance testing and production monitoring and alerting. Encourage a spirit of continuous improvement.
  • Team Building and Management: Recruit, hire, onboard, coach, and retain top talent for the engineering team, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and excellence.
  • Stakeholder Communication and Collaboration: Foster strong partnerships with your technical counterparts and cross-functional stakeholders including executives, product and design leaders, marketing and more to understand requirements, prioritize initiatives, and drive successful outcomes. Interface with stakeholders frequently and promote strong and clear communication across the org.
  • Risk Management: Identify and mitigate risks related to engineering projects, proactively addressing challenges to minimize impact on timelines and deliverables.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the Software Engineering squads, overseeing e-commerce platform and application development from concept to completion, ensuring high-quality deliverables
  • Develop and execute strategies for building scalable, maintainable, and performant solutions using Next.JS, TypeScript, React and Rails in a cloud-native environment
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including Product Management, Design, Data, IT, Security and DevOps to implement software solutions that meet business requirements and drive innovation
  • Define and enforce best practices, coding standards, and architectural guidelines for your team
  • Ensure teams are executing consistently through each phase of our product development lifecycle
  • Mentor and coach team members, fostering their professional growth and development
  • Drive initiatives in collaboration with the DevOps team to continuously improve development processes, tools, and technologies
  • Act as a technical thought leader, staying up to date with emerging technologies, industry trends, and best practices, and sharing knowledge across the organization

Qualifications

  • A proven track record of highly technical delivery in high scalability, public cloud environments such as AWS or GCP
  • 10+ years of hands-on experience in software development with a focus on application development using React, Javascript, Next.JS, Rails or similar frameworks
  • 6+ years in a Senior Engineering management role
  • A proven track record of evolving and up-leveling Engineering team practices, motivating and retaining a high-performing team
  • Deep technical expertise in application development, architecture, performance optimization, and best practices
  • Deep knowledge of e-commerce and the technology that powers the end-to-end customer experience. Subscription and direct to consumer experience is a plus
  • Proven track record of working closely with product, design and marketing teams
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field

Salary Range Information

Based on market data and other factors, the salary range for this position is $215,000 to $285,000. However, a salary higher or lower than this range may be appropriate for a candidate whose qualifications differ meaningfully from those listed in the job description.
