Hudbay (TSX, NYSE: HBM) is a copper-focused mining company with three long-life operations and a world-class pipeline of copper growth projects in tier-one mining-friendly jurisdictions of Canada, Peru and the United States. Hudbay’s operating portfolio includes the Constancia mine in Cusco (Peru), the Snow Lake operations in Manitoba (Canada) and the Copper Mountain mine in British Columbia (Canada). Copper is the primary metal produced by the company, which is complemented by meaningful gold production. Hudbay’s growth pipeline includes the Copper World project in Arizona, the Mason project in Nevada (United States), the Llaguen project in La Libertad (Peru) and several expansion and exploration opportunities near its existing operations.

Purpose of Role:

Business partner to South America and USA Business Units including leading the development of strategic cases as part of the annual strategic planning process, provide assistance in financial models, analyses and processes which support management reporting, financial accounting, capital planning and strategic decision making with the respective Business Units. Lead projects including leveraging technology to enhance planning and driver-based analysis.

Role Accountabilities:

  • Preparation of the overall structure and architecture of the South America and Arizona long-range plan (“LRP”) model to provide needed functionalities for all users, in consultation with the finance and operations functions at the business units.
  • Provide assistance on short-range plan (“SRP”) models when requested by site.
  • Oversight, delivery and presentation of strategic plans as part of the annual strategic planning process, including working with sites on analysis of key capital projects, driver-based and ad-hoc analysis.
  • Review and oversight of business unit level budgets and forecast, including assistance in the development of standardized management reporting.
  • Lead impairment tests as required, including development of models, memos, supporting documentation and primary contact for auditors.
  • Analytical support to functional groups within the business units and corporate office.
  • Center of modelling and process documentation excellence within Hudbay which can be deployed to assist other functional areas at their request.
  • Subject matter expert and power-user of planning system including assistance with expansion of system to corporate office and other business units.
  • Provide ad-hoc modelling services to other departments within South America and USA.
  • Assist in the implementation of the planning system, become a power user and develop a roadmap for rollout to sites.
  • Post-implementation capital project reviews.
  • First year includes support for Manager, FP&A Canada as processes are developed for newly acquired operating asset.
  • Assist in project support for development of Authorization for Expenditure for capital projects.
  • Conduct post-project review for key capital projects for South America and USA as identified for post-project review.

Experience and Qualifications:

  • Post secondary degree in business, accounting or engineering.
  • Financial modelling experience.
  • CPA or CFA Designation an asset.
  • Mining industry experience an asset.
  • Hyperion planning system experience an asset.
  • Fluency in Spanish an asset.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Financial modelling best practices.
  • IFRS accounting treatments preferably specific to mining industry.
  • Business valuation principals (discounted cash flow, net present value, return on invested capital, internal rate of return).
  • Financial modelling, including best practices.
  • Ability to distill large amounts of data into meaningful, insightful, and succinct analysis and recommendations, plus prepare effective data visualization/presentations to executives using PowerPoint or Bi tools (such as PowerBI)
  • Excellent people skills to be used in building constructive working relationships across the boundaries of the Hudbay organization, characterized by a high level of acceptance, cooperation and mutual respect.
  • Demonstrated penchant for challenging the status quo and driving results and process improvements, in particular, proven ability to drive improvements in business unit reporting.
  • A logical, analytic thinker who takes a numeric, process-based approach to problem solving.
  • Ideally, a leader who can envision the future direction of functional area and independently drive team and organizational change to achievement.

Travel:

15%-10% travel- site visits and conference attendance, as needed.

Working Arrangements:

Role is eligible flexible work arrangements, allowing you to balance 50% of your time in the office with 50% time working remotely.
