At HopSkipDrive, our goal is to create opportunity for all through mobility.

We’re a technology company that solves complex transportation challenges where there is a heightened need for safety, equity, and care. Through our marketplace, we connect kids, older adults, or anyone needing extra support to highly-vetted caregivers on wheels. Through our software and advisory services, we solve the biggest transportation challenges facing schools and school districts around the country.

Founded by three moms as a solution to their own transportation challenges, we’ve now completed more than 3.3 million rides and operate across over 13 states across the country. We continue to expand at a rapid pace, making the Inc. 5000 list four times, as well as the Deloitte 500 Fast-Growing Technology list. HopSkipDrive is a Series D company and has raised $100M in funding to date.

Your role: You’ll lead communications and earned media efforts for the company, focusing on policy, safety, and corporate communications. In this role, you’ll plan and execute on proactive and reactive communications designed to raise HopSkipDrive’s profile and shape understanding of the company and our industry among key audiences, specifically clients (school districts, government agencies, nonprofits), policymakers, CareDrivers, Caregivers, and more. You will use communications strategies to shape understanding of our legislative and regulatory priorities, and raise awareness of our industry leadership in safety.

What you will do:

  • You will leverage various earned media channels, including press coverage, op-eds, letters to the editor, third party advocacy, and more.

  • You’ll lead the PR/communications strategy for company announcements, helping coordinate cross-functionally and managing media relations.

  • You’ll be responsible for drafting talking points and key messaging for announcements and policy issues.

  • In addition, you will lead reactive communications by owning inbound press inquiries on policy, safety, and corporate communications topics, and you will own crisis communications.

  • You’ll report to the VP, Communications & External Affairs, and partner closely with the Director of Communications (Product, Client, and Local Comms) as well as team members who oversee marketing, digital channels, and brand.

What you'll bring:

  • An ideal candidate will have excellent and proven media relations skills and specific experience with crisis and policy communications.
  • You’re comfortable briefing reporters and editors as well as drafting written statements, coordinating with external voices, creating scenario plans, and leading internal communications on relevant issues in your purview.
  • You’re a team player and eager to roll up your sleeves to get the job done, and have worked closely with PR agencies and external consultants.
  • You understand the role communications plays in achieving policy goals, and have worked on integrated campaigns with colleagues in government relations, public engagement, and more.
  • You approach your work with drive, ownership, and empathy and do well in ambiguous situations where you can cut through the noise and make a clear and strategic recommendation.
  • You also have exceptionally strong writing and communication skills, the ability to work independently and with a team, and a passion for our mission to create opportunity for all through mobility.

Our Investment In You

We want you to be an owner in our company and share in executing our vision, so every full-time employee has equity. HopSkipDrive’s mission is to create opportunity for all through mobility. Our innovative, supplemental school transportation solutions are used by over 600 school districts, charter schools, nonprofits, government agencies, as well as busy families to safely and reliably get kids where they need to go.

Student transportation is the largest mass transit system in the U.S. The way kids get to and from school has a direct impact on our kids, families, schools and communities. While school districts spend $28 billion annually on transportation, only 30% of kids get to school on a bus. The current system can no longer meet all the transportation needs of our districts, schools and families — and its shortcomings are causing inequities in educational access that are affecting the welfare of millions of kids each day.

HopSkipDrive is taking a different approach to arranging safe, reliable school transportation that meets needs that aren’t being addressed by the current system, helping to fill gaps and supplement the student transportation options available. We create personalized transportation solutions for the one to the many, and everything in between.
