Rewiring America

Rewiring America is the leading electrification nonprofit, focused on electrifying our homes, communities, and businesses. Many American households face the challenge of rising energy costs and the desire to reduce their environmental impact. Our daily decisions—how we heat our homes, cook, dry clothes—account for 42% of U.S. energy-related emissions. Every choice comes down to adopting cleaner electric alternatives or fossil fuels that endanger health and the environment. As energy costs soar, urgent action is needed to make energy affordable, desirable, and better. Rewiring America supports households by lowering costs and providing a positive experience through electrification. We develop accessible data and tools and build coalitions and partnerships to make going electric easier for households and communities. Our purpose is to make electrification simple, measurable, and inevitable.

We help Americans save money, tackle nationwide emissions goals, improve health, and build the next generation of the clean energy workforce. We understand that for many people, the current experience of electrification is not a positive one. Only a fraction of households will wade through today's fragmented, high-friction market. Everyone else will wait until we make electrification a significantly better experience. To do that, we are reimagining and retooling the household consumer experience, simplifying the sales, financing, and installation process in Rewiring Communities. Households must know what upgrades to pursue when, what incentives are available to them, and how electrifying will impact their energy bills. Then they must know how to find well-trained contractors and what they should expect to pay. Our work is centered on kitchen table decisions American households make about the cars they drive, how they heat their air and water, cook their food, dry their clothes and power those machines. We care about these decisions because going electric can reduce household energy costs by an average of $3,000 and put $300 million back into the average-sized American community per year. We believe in an abundant, flourishing, climate-safe future, and know that, together, we can realize one.
