About the team

HashiCorp’s R&D Portfolio Strategy team is central to our R&D organization and closely connected to product management, engineering, design, product marketing, support, and go-to-market (GTM) teams. Our mission is to align R&D execution with corporate strategy through unified portfolio planning, optimized resource allocation, clear strategic analysis, and outcome-focused enablement.

As a Senior Portfolio Strategy Analyst, you will play a pivotal role in translating our product development efforts into tangible financial outcomes, driving critical investment decisions, and navigating a dynamic data landscape following the IBM acquisition. This is an internally focused role with high executive visibility, emphasizing data-driven financial insights to support our internal teams in maximizing business growth and strategic impact.

What you’ll do (responsibilities)

  • Strategic Investment & Impact Analysis: Lead in-depth Return on Investment (ROI) analysis for strategic projects and significant resourcing initiatives, specifically measuring the impact of strategic recommendations. This includes M&A opportunities. Develop models and provide data-backed recommendations to senior leadership.
  • Strategic Resourcing: Take primary responsibility for the financial and reporting aspects of our global resourcing prioritization strategy, including contributing to the overall strategy framework. This involves modeling and reporting on headcount and investments across high-cost US roles and lower-cost India-based roles.
  • Top-Line Revenue Forecasting: Develop expected revenue models for each of our products, including segmentation by geography, in connection with the Sales Operations and IBM Finance teams. Drive the translation of how the products we build directly impact revenue growth, including modeling IBM synergy business cases.
  • Corporate Development & M&A: Serve as the strategic finance expert for corporate development and M&A opportunities. Provide crucial financial context and analysis to guide strategic decision-making.
  • Executive Communication & Partnership: Prepare and deliver high-impact presentations on complex financial insights and strategic recommendations to R&D leadership and the heads of each product group. Ensure clear, concise, and compelling communication for executive-level stakeholders.
  • Among other responsibilities, as required by the business unit.

What you’ll need (minimum qualifications)

  • Experience: 8+ years of progressive experience in finance or consulting, with a strong preference for backgrounds in: Investment Banking, Strategic Finance at a technology company, Corporate FP&A, Management Consulting with a finance focus.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Required: Advanced proficiency in Excel for complex financial modeling. Strong SQL skills are essential for independent data extraction and analysis.
    • Preferred: Experience with data analysis (Python, e.g.). Familiarity with Business Intelligence (BI) tools such as Sigma or Tableau.
  • Data-Driven Mindset: Proven ability to leverage data to inform strategic decision-making, identify root causes, and build strategic frameworks to solve problems. You are capable of reducing qualitative problems to recommendations backed by data.
  • Action-Oriented: Demonstrated ability to "get things done" and solve problems, driving important projects forward despite challenges like fragmented data or lack of alignment.
  • Effective Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a high degree of executive presence to effectively present complex financial insights and influence decisions at the highest levels.

What's nice to have (preferred qualifications)

  • A degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, or a related quantitative field (MBA, e.g.).
  • Experience navigating financial reporting in large, complex organizations (post-acquisition integration, e.g.).
  • Familiarity with software product lifecycle economics and investment analysis.
  • Experience with data analysis (Python, e.g.). Familiarity with Business Intelligence (BI) tools such as Sigma or Tableau.

Individual pay within the range will be determined based on job related-factors such as skills, experience, and education or training.

The base pay range for this role in the SF Bay Area / NYC area is:$224,400—$264,000 USDThe base pay range for this role in California (excluding SF Bay Area), New York (excluding NYC), Seattle Metro, Denver / Boulder Metro, Washington D.C., or Maryland is:$205,700—$242,000 USDThe base pay range for this role in Colorado (excluding Denver / Boulder Metro), Illinois, Minnesota, or Washington (excluding Seattle Metro) is:$187,000—$220,000 USD
