Tax - Manager

We're seeking an experienced, process-driven Tax Manager/Senior Manager to join our developing and expanding internal tax team. You will collaborate with our experienced team of finance and accounting professionals, working with our startup clients to manage their tax needs. The responsibilities of this position will require frequent interaction and collaboration with our team and clients. This full-time position is entirely remote, with a base salary range of $85,000-$110,000 annually based on years of experience.

Some of what you’ll do:

• Oversee and develop our tax staff, working closely with internal teams, external partners, and startup clients to help manage their tax needs, including income tax compliance, R&D credit support, and sales and use tax
• Assist in managing external partner relationships for areas of tax we do not yet manage internally
• You will work closely with firm leadership and play a key role in the overall department development.
• Planning, scheduling, and executing client engagements and proactively identifying potential obstacles and solutions. This will include working with outsourced firms to help plan and manage the busy season and ensure all tax-related deadlines are met
• Stays abreast of tax law changes in the U.S. to manage risk and identify potential planning opportunities
• Communicate with clients and tax authorities to represent clients as needed
• Assess and research tax issues to identify solutions for current and onboarding clients as needed
• Collaborate with our internal controller services teams to ensure smooth, timely delivery to clients
• Assist as needed to complete ad-hoc projects

Who are you:

• 5+ years of experience working in public accounting, VC-backed startup companies or growth technology companies with a focus on federal and state income taxes (sales & use and/or property tax is a plus)
• A CPA license and/or Enrolled Agent is preferred
• You have a Bachelor’s or Master's degree from an accredited university majoring in accounting
• Deep knowledge of tax code with demonstrated experience resolving complex tax issues
• Strong US federal and state tax technical knowledge with extensive tax compliance experience using tax software (UltraTax experience is a plus)
• You have general to detailed knowledge around Research and Development tax matters, analyzing organizations, and maximizing the R&D tax benefit
• Experience successfully running multiple projects and priorities simultaneously and can prioritize tasks and work efficiently towards completing them to meet all deadlines
• You have a high degree of personal motivation, work ethic, and professionalism
• You are optimistic and committed, with a 'can-do' attitude and a flexible approach
• You’re a team player who is comfortable working in a fast-paced environment
