That spark of an idea led to the creation of our first camera, the GoPro 35mm HERO, a waterproof film camera that launched in 2004. The name 'GoPro' actually came from the aspiration many of us shared to 'go pro' in our passions, and the 'Hero' name was chosen because our cameras were designed to make the subject look like a hero in their own action-packed footage.

Since those early days, we've grown into a globally recognized and relentlessly innovative brand.
