Job Purpose:

We are looking for a skilled UI/UX Analyst to lead the design and user experience of our applications. This role is responsible for defining the visual and functional aspects of user interfaces that align with business needs and customer expectations. Working closely with Business Analysts and Technical Leads, the UI/UX Analyst ensures solutions are user-friendly, accessible, and adhere to industry and state standards.

Note: Candidates must be Wisconsin residents or willing to relocate at their own expense before starting. This position is fully remote within the state of Wisconsin.

Requirements

Key Responsibilities

  • Understand project objectives and collaborate with the project team to clarify requirements, functionality, scalability, and usability of IT solutions.
  • Follow project timelines closely while partnering with Business Analysts to analyze current business processes and translate them into effective interface designs.
  • Conduct usability testing alongside User Acceptance Test (UAT) teams to ensure compliance with UI/UX best practices.
  • Address critical UI/UX issues promptly to maintain product quality and user satisfaction.
  • Participate actively in requirement gathering and brainstorming sessions with business owners to identify usability challenges and user needs.
  • Perform user research including interviews, observations, and testing to inform design decisions; develop personas, user flows, journey maps, and storyboards as required.
  • Lead design review meetings throughout application development to ensure consistent alignment.
  • Analyze existing user workflows, identify pain points, and recommend improvements focused on usability and visual appeal.
  • Own the visual design, usability, and accessibility of the product; guide the team on design patterns, screen layouts, and usability testing.
  • Advocate for the end user by continuously enhancing product design and usability within budget constraints.
  • Produce sketches, wireframes, and mockups aligned with business requirements and compliant with State of Michigan (SOM) standards and ADA regulations.
  • Create high-fidelity, interactive prototypes where appropriate.
  • Review design artifacts with Business Analysts for business alignment and Technical Leads for feasibility before presenting to stakeholders.
  • Provide developers with tools, checklists, and best practice guidance on UI/UX standards, coding norms, and ADA compliance remediation.
  • Ensure all designs meet SOM Application and Site Standards.
  • Perform accessibility testing to confirm adherence to ADA requirements.
  • Organize and lead usability testing sessions with end users and iterate designs based on feedback.
  • Advise development teams on accessibility and vulnerability remediation throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Act as the point of contact for the DTMB Center for Shared Solutions (CSS) eMichigan team regarding UI/UX concerns.

Required Skills & Experience

  • 3 to 5 years of hands-on experience designing user interfaces.
  • 3 to 5 years experience conducting user research and usability testing.
  • Education or certification in graphic design, interaction design, visual communication, or a related discipline.
  • Submission of a portfolio demonstrating relevant skills and projects is mandatory.
  • Submission of 2 to 3 professional references is required.
  • Experience designing within established design standards is preferred.
  • Familiarity with accessibility standards such as WCAG is a plus.
  • Experience performing usability and ADA compliance testing is highly desirable.
