Director, Engineering

Deel is a global payroll and HR platform that is looking for a Director, Engineering to lead its EOR engine, which enables compliant, global employment for hundreds of thousands of people. The role requires technical expertise, organizational mastery, and leadership skills to manage a team of 55+ engineers and drive high performance through direct feedback and technical mentorship.

Requirements

• Expert-level ability designing and scaling highly-available, distributed systems
• Elite backend expertise (Node.js/PostgreSQL) and experience navigating complex, multi-jurisdictional data models and integrations
• Hands-on experience with modern debugging techniques, cloud-native infrastructure (AWS), and rapidly diagnosing/resolving deep system issues in high-pressure production environments
• Experience managing "teams of teams" (50+ headcount) with a track record of optimizing structure, communication, and delivery across multiple workstreams
• Passion for the "engine" of a product—logic, data integrity, and complex workflows
