About us

ClearBank was built on the belief that banking infrastructure would no longer slow down progress. Instead, it’s the catalyst that unlocks the potential to innovate. That’s why our clients — financial institutions from fintech’s and crypto platforms, to banks and credit unions — use our API to power their banking infrastructure.

But we wouldn’t be ClearBank without our people. They’re what powers our innovative technology and the reason we love what we do every day. We’re a group of spirited people who are never afraid to challenge the norm – becoming stronger, more energised, and that much better when we’re together. It’s our belief in fairness, autonomy and choice that means our people are empowered with the tools to learn, grow, and contribute to ours and our clients’ success. Interested in joining us? About you

You’ll be joining the Development Platform and Infrastructure Group as Technical Product Owner. Reporting to the area’s Technical Product Lead, you’ll be a part of a fast-growing business that is challenging the market and doing things differently.

As a Technical Product Owner in Infrastructure and Platform you will help ClearBank revolutionise the banking industry, enabling developers to ship and run better software faster. You will work as a senior individual contributor with your teams in the group and report to the area’s Technical Product Lead. You will own product definition and management of internal and client-facing platform services: compute, storage, events and messaging, API Management, cloud landing zones, network connectivity, cloud billing and cost management.

With the rest of ClearBank IT Innovation as your customer, you will work with leaders and individual contributors across the technology organisation to understand their needs, struggles and paths to creating high-quality and reliable software faster. You will take accountability for keeping products in your remit clearly defined and documented: their existing features, service levels, non-functional requirements, and limitations. You will create, manage, and prioritise backlogs and roadmaps for products you own through work within IT Innovation and outside of it. You will work with engineering leaders, Agile Delivery Managers, and other supporting roles on backlog item prioritisation, definition, refinement, and formulating acceptance criteria. You will ensure that only the most important and/or impactful features and enhancements are built next.

And you’ll be joining the #14 fastest-growing tech company in the UK, according to Deloitte Fast 50.

Technical Product Owners require a combination of technical and product management experience and skills. If your experience differs from the tools and approaches we use at ClearBank but you can pick new methods up quickly, please still apply.

As the technical product owner you will be responsible for:

  • Defining technical Platform product requirements and enhancements that will deliver value directly to ClearBank clients or enable IT Innovation teams to deliver value to clients faster.
  • Ensuring existing functionality, service levels, limitations, and non-functional requirements of the products you own are clearly defined and documented.
  • Working closely with IT Innovation developers, managers, staff and principal engineers to define product priorities, delivery backlogs and roadmaps for your hive.
  • Practicing and promoting the “Just Enough” approach to product development and champion a high return on investment within your hive.
  • Leveraging modern technologies where appropriate to get the most value out of existing ClearBank platform offering and deliver additional value in the highest-priority areas. At ClearBank we want to lead the financial industry when it comes to technology while focussing on the things customers need most.
  • Using agile principles to enable collaboration and innovation in the team and with stakeholders outside the team. Contribute to an environment that drive positive energy and a mentality to succeed.
  • Defining metrics for product success in your area and ensure the hive can effectively communicate success both within the team and at all levels of the organisation.
  • Working with the Agile Delivery Manager, Infrastructure engineering managers, staff engineers, and principal to balance engineering priorities with platform product objectives.
  • Presenting your group’s roadmaps, product changes and value metrics across ClearBank.

Requirements

  • Experience working in a technical platform product environment, an appreciation of the value of technical platforms and an understanding of the platform engagement model
  • A mindset of ownership, leading by example and a default to action approach
  • Excellent written communication and presentation skills
  • Proven track-record of enabling teams to operate in a DevOps and/or Platform environment
  • Excellent communication skills that can inspire and align your team and outside stakeholders to the platform vision
  • Product management or delivery experience in an agile environment.

It would be a bonus if you also had:

  • Practical awareness of the ClearBank platform technology stack: Terraform, Azure DevOps yaml pipelines and templates, Azure cloud services including AKS (or Kubernetes in general), Networking, Identity Management, Service Fabric, Service Bus (or other messaging platforms), Azure SQ (or other SQL storage), Cosmos DB (or similar no SQL DBs), ElasticSearch
