Center for Popular Democracy

At the Center for Popular Democracy (CPD), we believe that our democracy works best when it includes everyone. Born from the merger of the Center for Working Families and the Leadership Center for the Common Good in 2012, we have grown into a high-impact national organization that builds organizing power to transform the local and state policy landscape. Our mission is rooted in the conviction that everyday people—especially those from Black, brown, and low-income communities—must have a direct hand in shaping the institutions that govern their lives. We envision a society where equity and opportunity are not just ideals, but realities for all, achieved through a resilient, multiracial democracy.

Our culture is defined by a deep commitment to a 'pro-worker, pro-immigrant, racial and economic justice' agenda. We operate as a dynamic network of over 50 community-based organizations across more than 30 states, Puerto Rico, and Washington, D.C., fostering a collaborative environment where local victories fuel national change. We value the power of collective action and the strength found in our diversity, working tirelessly to upend 'politics as usual.' Whether we are fighting for fair wages, affordable housing, or immigrant rights, our team is united by a shared passion for justice and a determination to build a world where everyone can thrive, no exceptions. We empower our staff and partners to lead with bold vision, ensuring that the voices of the most marginalized are not only heard but are central to the decision-making process. By merging technical expertise with deep organizing experience, we support our partners in winning, sustaining, and replicating victories that tangibly improve lives across the country.
