Job Summary:

Blavity Inc. is seeking an Associate Editor to support editorial and content development for theHome & Texture brand. This enterprising and highly motivated self-starter will oversee the day-to-day editing and publishing of topical, inspiring and informative articles. The role requires amazing instincts in unifying digital editorial content with online shopping, emerging products, gift guides, and the best deals. The successful candidate will have a natural ability to rally a team of writers to ideate and produce creative editorial work that resonates with Black and Multicultural Millennials who are homeowners, prospective homeowners, and design-minded renters. The Associate Editor should understand how to optimize media and editorial content for search and sales to drive revenue growth.

This role applies a mix of recognizing audience behaviors, interpreting data, pouring through social platforms, writing, editing and staying up-to-date on current events and viral trends. The Associate Editor safeguards the brand’s philosophy to create warm and energetic areas while honoring our inspiring history to build a beautiful space.

This position is a (W2) Contractor who will report directly to the Deputy Editor, Home & Texture.

Contractors will be responsible for providing their own equipment, including but not limited to laptop computers, cell phones, or any other electronic equipment required to perform their role.

Responsibilities

• Edit 5 - 10 articles daily
• Support the Deputy Editor in supervising a small team of internal writers, contractors and freelancers by assigning a healthy balance of editorial and shoppable/affiliate articles per week (mix of new content and updates to existing content)
• Manage the editorial calendar and collaborate with the team on fresh and engaging content ideas – keeping Blavity’s Home & Texture audience top of mind
• Serve as the final guardian for grammar, AP style, tone, structure, and brand voice
• Safeguard content to prevent infringements and guarantee information accuracy prior to distribution

Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor's degree
• Required Experience:
  • 1+ years experience with digital publishing, including producing commerce content
  • Strong verbal and organization skills along with effective and appropriate written communication, including grammar and AP Style
  • CMS experience required
• Preferred Experience:
  • Experience using affiliate platforms such as Skimlinks, Amazon Associates, and Rakuten
  • Experience with SEO tools, Google Search Console, and Google Analytics (or equivalent)
  • A deep knowledge of, passion for, and understanding of the travel industry
• Technologies: Fluent in Google Suite, Asana, and/or comparable project management suite
• Additional Qualifications:
  • A self-starter who can pivot seamlessly as new directives are identified
  • Openness to new challenges and eager to grow within a fast-paced, evolving company
  • High-energy, company-first, positive attitude; must be motivated to work hard in a fast-paced environment
  • A healthy appreciation of GIFs and Black culture

Details:

• This is a fully remote, U.S.- based role. Occasional travel may be required.
• Candidates must be authorized to work in the U.S.
• Candidates must be available to work at least 50% in alignment with the Eastern Time Zone.
• The hourly rate for this role is $30.
