About EPSO-G
We are BALTPOOL, an international biomass exchange that provides a transparent and efficient online trading platform for biomass and timber products. Since our establishment, we have been dedicated to fostering competition and ensuring objective pricing in the energy market. Our core mission is to develop a platform that enables sustainable and efficient bioenergy trading. We were founded in 2009 and launched the first biomass exchange in Europe in 2012, a significant step towards creating a more integrated and transparent energy market in the Baltic region and beyond. We are a part of Lithuania's state-owned EPSO-G energy transmission and exchange group, which provides us with a strong foundation and aligns our operations with national energy goals.
Our operations have expanded significantly since our inception. We now serve markets in Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Poland, Denmark, Sweden, and Finland, with over 700 participants utilizing our platform. We facilitate the trade of standardized biomass products, including wood chips, pellets, and agricultural biomass, through weekly auctions. This process ensures price transparency and security for both buyers and sellers. In Lithuania, our activities also extend to organizing timber and heat auctions and administering funds for public service obligations in the electricity sector. We are committed to sustainability and have implemented tools for biomass traceability, allowing market participants to track the origin of raw materials and calculate CO2 emissions. We continuously strive to innovate and enhance our services, providing data analytics and risk management tools to empower our clients and contribute to a greener, more secure energy future for Europe.
