AM General LLC

In 1971, American Motors Corporation organized its automotive manufacturing operations as a wholly owned subsidiary named AM General Corporation. This move came after acquiring the General Products Division from Kaiser-Jeep Corporation, which had itself evolved from companies with deep roots in American automotive history - including Studebaker, founded in 1852, and Willys-Overland, which developed America's first 4-wheel-drive tactical utility truck, the Willys Jeep, in 1940.

Today, AM General designs, engineers, manufactures, supplies, and supports specialized vehicles for military and commercial customers worldwide. The company is widely recognized as the world leader in the design, engineering, manufacture, and support of Light Tactical Vehicles, having produced and sustained more than 300,000 vehicles in over 60 countries. AM General's iconic products include the HUMVEE (High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle), which first entered production in 1985 and has become synonymous with military mobility. The company continues to innovate with next-generation vehicles like the JLTV (Joint Light Tactical Vehicle) and the HUMVEE Saber light tactical truck.

Headquartered in South Bend, Indiana, with manufacturing and innovation facilities in Indiana, Michigan, and Ohio, AM General employs a strong American workforce drawing from diverse experiences and backgrounds. The company also operates commercial ventures, including Mobility Ventures, designer and manufacturer of the MV-1 - the only American-made vehicle built from the ground up for wheelchair accessibility. Additionally, AM General serves as a contract manufacturer for Mercedes-Benz, producing the R-Class luxury vehicle in Mishawaka, Indiana.
