Intern - Emergency Management Finance

Our mission is to provide compassionate consulting services to local, state, federal and industry clients, active in disaster response, recovery, and preparedness. We will be on time, on target, and on budget with the services aligned to the evolving threats and hazards facing our nation.

The Emergency Management Finance Intern will support ACDC's Recovery Division by assisting in various financial activities related to grant application and implementation, financial forecasting, reporting, operational metrics tracking, and financial data analysis. Interns will gain exposure to cost tracking, close-out processes, financial modeling, variance analysis, trend identification, and performance evaluation. Each Finance Intern will have a specific work portfolio based on their skill set and desired expertise.

The position will be guided by ACDC’s Corporate Values Platform in all activities.

Tasks, Duties, and Responsibilities

• Assist in financial forecasting, reporting, and operational metrics tracking.
• Analyze financial data.
• Create financial models and/or reports for decision support.
• Perform variance analysis, identify trends, and make recommendations for improvement.
• Evaluate financial performance by comparing/ and analyzing actual results with plans and forecasts.
• Support clients with grant applications and implementation of funding.
• This internship will provide a mix of exposure to emergency management recovery operations and strategy, including project management processes, planning, public assistance, and grant management as available/needed.
• Work on projects that have a direct impact on clients if available/needed.
• Interns will be given the opportunity for shadowing experiences and exposure to various divisions and projects as available.
• In limited circumstances, Interns may be asked to assist in matters related to research and development, project management/administration, or other corporate operations.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Experience and Education Required

• Currently enrolled or recently graduated from a Business Management, Finance, Accounting, or a related field program at an accredited university, college, or other educational facility.
• 6-12 months experience supporting financial forecasting, reporting, operational metrics tracking, and analyzing financial data to create models or reports.
• 6-12 months experience analyzing past results, performing variance analysis, identifying trends, and making recommendations for improvement.
• 0-2+ years’ beginner level knowledge/experience in emergency management principles.
• 0-2+ years’ level customer service experience.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office 365, particularly Excel.

Experience and Education Preferred

• Experience supporting a municipality with grant applications or implementation of grant funds.
• Proficiency in cost tracking, close-out.
• Experience evaluating financial performance by comparing and analyzing actual results with plans and forecasts.
• Knowledgeable in evaluating financial performance by comparing and analyzing actual results with plans and forecasts.
• Skills in financial forecasting, reporting, operational metrics tracking, and data analysis to create models or reports.
• Current GPA of 3.0 or higher.
• 1 year of previous finance-related internship, volunteering, or work experience.

Supervisory Responsibilities

The Internship position has no direct supervisory responsibility.

Expected Hours of Work

Schedule may vary and require work on evenings and weekends and dependability and punctuality are paramount.

Physical Demands

• Sitting or standing for hours at a time.
• Ability to work at a computer for prolonged periods of time if needed.

Work Environment

• The internship is considered 100% remote, or work from home.

• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• Must pass company and any applicable client background check and reference check upon offer of employment.
• Eligibility to work in the United States is required.
