Susan Hann Doyle
@susanhanndoyle
Doctoral researcher advancing substance use, relapse prevention, and responsible AI evaluation for public health equity.
What I'm looking for
I’m a Ph.D. student in Applied Social Psychology at Claremont Graduate University, focused on substance use, relapse prevention, and how 12 step recovery communities function as social environments. My work emphasizes populations underrepresented in clinical trials and community samples, because I’m driven by a practical question: when interventions are effective, why do some people get reached—and others don’t?
I design and run mixed methods studies to measure both effect size and the reason behind it. In my doctoral research, I’ve led a mixed methods pilot examining the combined effects of two journaling practices on alcohol craving in 12 step recovery participants, including survey design, recruitment, IRB protocol development, and analysis in R and SPSS. I also contribute to suicide prevention research grounded in community based participatory frameworks, with attention to means safety and culturally responsive design.
Recently, I’ve been working at the intersection of behavioral science and applied AI—as a beta evaluator for an AI public health tool through the BLAIS Challenge at CGU. I’m developing evaluation frameworks that test usability and accuracy together with equity, accessibility, and ethical risk, producing structured, evidence-based feedback to support responsible deployment in public health settings. My earlier clinical experience as a SUD Counselor and Group Facilitator grounds my research with recurring observations about relapse patterns and intervention gaps for women in residential treatment.
