Stéphanie Jean-Baptiste
@sjeanbaptiste
Sociologist and educator delivering equity-centered multilingual instruction and interpretation.
What I'm looking for
I’m a sociologist and experienced college educator with a Ph.D. in Sociology and 10 years of teaching across sociology, global studies, and criminal justice, including fully online course delivery via Blackboard and Zoom. I build learning experiences grounded in Freirean and andragogical principles—where adult learner success is supported through transparent assignment design and purposeful community-building.
In my teaching, I’ve consistently used TILT-style clarity (purpose, task, and success criteria) to reduce student anxiety and improve equitable access, while designing asynchronous discussion prompts that require substantive intellectual engagement. I’ve mentored 300+ students across academic, personal, and career pathways, and I translate complex sociological concepts into accessible course content across in-person and online classrooms.
Beyond the classroom, I advance equitable communication through Haitian Kreyòl, French, and Spanish interpretation, and I support nonprofits and educational institutions through curriculum design, instructional design, translation, interpretation, workshop facilitation, and strategic consulting. Whether working on language access, research centered on Haitian community perspectives, or culturally responsive educational materials for health, legal, and civic literacy, I stay focused on cultural integrity, clarity, and real-world impact.
