Simone Vellei
@simonevellei
I build scalable backend, IoT, and AI platforms from protocols to cloud infrastructure.
What I'm looking for
At cybus.io, I redesigned Connectware's resource control plane in Go and helped move inter-service communication to NATS, enabling 3 million concurrent resources and a 100x capacity improvement. I also built lightweight Prometheus instrumentation for hot paths and delivered company-wide training on LLMs, RAG, vector databases, and multi-agent systems.
At UFirst, I engineered concurrent Go services for digital queues and appointments, improved high-load aggregation through MongoDB pipelines, and led the adoption of Amazon Chime SDK for integrated video appointments. I also built Python worker pipelines for ExtrAI, processing audio, video, and slides into session-specific chatbots.
At Inim Electronics, I built the cloud engineering function from scratch, hired and mentored a team of three, and architected infrastructure for hundreds of thousands of connected alarm panels worldwide. Earlier, I developed embedded Linux gateways, secure device protocols, TCP/IP stacks, and RS-485 networking for security and fire-detection systems.
I'm also the creator of LinGoose and Phero, open-source Go frameworks for LLM applications and multi-agent orchestration. I enjoy owning complex systems end to end, from constrained embedded devices and protocols to distributed cloud platforms and AI developer tooling.
Experience
Work history, roles, and key accomplishments
Redesigned the resource status tracking subsystem in Go, lifting scalability to 1 million deployable resources. Co-designed a NATS-based event-driven architecture, enabling 3 million concurrent resources, and implemented custom Prometheus metrics to preserve observability.
Senior Backend Engineer
UFirst
Nov 2021 - Apr 2024 (2 years 5 months)
Engineered concurrent Go microservices for a queue-and-appointment platform, optimizing MongoDB pipelines to reduce memory footprint. Led adoption of Amazon Chime SDK for video conferencing and designed a Python-based worker pipeline for a private-LLM SaaS platform.
Backend Engineer / Tech Lead
Inim Electronics
Jan 2017 - Nov 2021 (4 years 10 months)
Built the cloud engineering function from scratch, hiring and mentoring a team of 3. Re-implemented proprietary communication protocols for embedded alarm panels and architected cloud infrastructure for hundreds of thousands of devices.
Senior Linux Embedded Engineer
Inim Electronics
Sep 2005 - Jan 2017 (11 years 4 months)
Engineered a proprietary secure internet protocol for burglar-alarm devices and delivered the company's first GNU/Linux embedded LAN gateway. Implemented a token-ring network stack over RS-485 for fire-detection panels.
Junior Linux Embedded Engineer
Bentel Security
Apr 2005 - Sep 2005 (5 months)
Built the first prototype of a GNU/Linux-based multimedia keypad for burglar alarms and authored product specifications for the resulting product line.
