Neelaka Ganegoda

I'm a design engineer in Colombo, Sri Lanka. I design interfaces in Figma and
then build them in code, so the handoff problem mostly disappears on work I own.

I started as a trainee web designer at 3CS Asia in May 2021, moved into
front-end UI/UX design a year later, and by July 2023 was Design Lead there,
owning B2C web applications from user research through to built, responsive
interfaces and mentoring the designers and developers on the team.

Research-driven UX and front-end changes I shipped raised user engagement 50% in six months. Since April 2024 I've been a UI/UX Engineer at Content
Management and Solutions, on B2B web applications: reusable component
libraries, Figma wireframes and prototypes through to production code, and
usability testing that feeds back into the interface. Designing, prototyping
and testing new interface flows there improved navigation efficiency by 25%.

E-commerce runs through most of my work. At CMS I design and build the front
end of custom B2B commerce applications, covering product catalogue and product pages, cart and checkout, and the ordering, quoting and pricing flows behind them. Before that at 3CS I designed and built four WooCommerce storefronts for retail clients in jewellery, fresh produce and groceries, from Figma through to the live theme.

Accessibility is the part I've gone deepest on. On The Soul Care, a site for a
student-led mental health initiative, I worked to WCAG 2.1 AA from the first
commit for an audience on mid-range Android phones and metered data. It scored Lighthouse accessibility 100 with no axe-core violations on five of six pages, SEO 100, and cumulative layout shift of 0 on every run. Getting there meant coordinated focus traps, focus restore that checks containment first,
self-hosted subset fonts with metric-matched fallbacks, and fixing two brand
accent colours that were failing contrast at 3.5:1.

Day to day: HTML, CSS, Tailwind, JavaScript, React, Next.js, Astro, Figma,
WordPress and WooCommerce, with GitHub Copilot, Cursor and Claude in the build loop. I hold a BSc (Hons) in Information Technology from the University of West London.

What I want next is a product role where the design work and the front-end
engineering sit in the same job rather than either side of a ticket. I write up
