Monique Smith-Perry

I am a trauma-informed counsellor-in-training with a strong commitment to supporting vulnerable individuals, particularly women and adolescents affected by gender-based violence, HIV, and childhood abuse or neglect. My educational background includes a Master of Science in Counselling from the University of the West Indies, where I am currently exploring identity status and maladjustment in undergraduate students. My Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communications from the University of South Florida has equipped me with effective communication skills that enhance my counselling practice.

Throughout my internships, I have gained hands-on experience in various settings, including Kingston High School and Eve For Life, where I utilized trauma-informed interventions and person-centred therapy to conduct individual therapy sessions. I have developed and implemented safety plans, conducted psychological screenings, and collaborated with school staff to create a safer environment for at-risk students. My work with orphaned and vulnerable youth has reinforced my dedication to providing compassionate support and effective interventions tailored to each individual's needs.

In addition to my counselling experience, I have served as an Office Administrator and Intake Coordinator, where I managed client intake processes and created marketing materials to raise awareness of services offered. I am a member of the American Psychological Association and the Jamaican Psychological Society, continuously seeking to expand my knowledge through workshops and certifications in trauma-informed care and other relevant areas. I am passionate about making a positive impact in the lives of those I serve.
