Role Overview
We are looking for a highly experienced Chief Railroad Engineer to lead our engineering initiatives and drive innovation within our organization. In this pivotal role, you will oversee the design, construction, and maintenance of rail systems, ensuring safety, efficiency, and compliance with industry standards. Responsibilities
- Lead the engineering team in the development and implementation of railroad infrastructure projects, ensuring adherence to safety and regulatory standards
- Develop and execute strategic engineering plans to optimize rail operations and enhance service reliability
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including operations, maintenance, and safety, to identify opportunities for improvement and innovation
- Conduct thorough risk assessments and implement mitigation strategies to ensure project success
- Oversee the preparation and management of project budgets, schedules, and resource allocation
- Stay abreast of industry trends, technologies, and regulatory changes, and apply this knowledge to enhance organizational practices
- Mentor and develop engineering staff to foster a culture of excellence and continuous improvement
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- 10+ years of experience in railroad engineering, with a strong focus on infrastructure design and maintenance
- Proven track record of managing large-scale railroad projects from conception through completion
- In-depth knowledge of railroad engineering principles, safety regulations, and best practices
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire and motivate a diverse team
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a focus on practical solutions
Preferred:
- Advanced degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, or a related field
- Experience with innovative technologies such as automated systems or sustainable practices in railroad engineering
- Professional Engineering (PE) license or equivalent certification
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Expertise in railroad design software and modeling tools, such as CAD and GIS
- Familiarity with project management software and methodologies
