Role Overview
We are seeking a dedicated Marine Mammal Training Supervisor to lead our team in executing cutting-edge training programs for various marine mammal species. This role encompasses strategic oversight of animal training methodologies, ensuring the well-being of the animals, and fostering an environment of continuous learning and improvement for both the animals and the training staff.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement innovative training programs that enhance the physical and mental well-being of marine mammals.
- Supervise and mentor a team of marine mammal trainers, providing guidance on behavior modification, enrichment strategies, and training techniques.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of training programs and make data-driven adjustments to optimize outcomes.
- Collaborate with veterinary staff to ensure the health and safety of the animals during training sessions.
- Develop and maintain detailed records of animal behavior, training progress, and health assessments.
- Lead training demonstrations and educational programs for visitors, enhancing public awareness and understanding of marine mammals.
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Marine Biology, Animal Behavior, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience working with marine mammals in a training or supervisory capacity.
- Proven knowledge of training methodologies, animal behavior, and welfare standards.
Preferred:
- Experience with a variety of marine mammal species, including cetaceans and pinnipeds.
- Advanced certifications in animal training or behavior modification techniques.
- Strong communication skills for effective team collaboration and public engagement.
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Expertise in operant conditioning and positive reinforcement training techniques.
- Proficient in animal behavior assessment tools and data analysis.
