Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Animal Care Supervisor to lead our dedicated team in providing high-quality care and welfare for our animals. This role requires a deep understanding of animal behavior, health, and husbandry, combined with strong leadership skills to oversee daily operations, ensure compliance with regulations, and promote a culture of excellence in animal care.
Responsibilities
- Supervise and coordinate daily animal care operations, ensuring the highest standards of animal welfare are met
- Lead, mentor, and train a team of animal care staff, promoting professional development and effective teamwork
- Develop and implement care protocols and enrichment programs tailored to the specific needs of various species
- Monitor animal health and behavior, collaborating with veterinarians to address any medical or behavioral issues
- Ensure compliance with relevant regulations, policies, and ethical standards in animal care
- Maintain accurate records of animal care activities, health assessments, and staff training
- Participate in the development of educational programs and community outreach initiatives related to animal care and welfare
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Animal Science, Biology, Veterinary Technology, or a related field
- 3+ years of experience in animal care, including supervisory or leadership roles
- Strong knowledge of animal behavior, health, and husbandry practices
- Proven ability to lead a team and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Preferred:
- Experience working with a diverse range of species, including exotic animals
- Certification in animal care or related field (e.g., Certified Animal Welfare Administrator)
- Experience in developing training programs for staff and volunteers
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Proficiency in record-keeping systems, animal management software, and data analysis tools
- Knowledge of veterinary care protocols and emergency response procedures
- Experience with animal behavior assessment tools and techniques
