Role Overview
We are looking for a dedicated and knowledgeable Animal Technician to join our team. In this role, you will play a crucial part in ensuring the health and well-being of laboratory animals, supporting research initiatives, and adhering to ethical standards in animal care. Your expertise will directly contribute to the success of scientific studies and advancements in veterinary care.
Responsibilities
- Provide daily care for laboratory animals, including feeding, cleaning, and monitoring their health and behavior
- Assist in the preparation and administration of medications and treatments as prescribed by veterinary staff
- Maintain accurate records of animal health, behavior, and care, adhering to regulatory guidelines
- Support research staff in conducting experiments by handling animals and assisting with procedures
- Ensure compliance with all protocols related to animal welfare and ethical standards
- Participate in the training of new staff and interns in animal care and handling techniques
- Collaborate with veterinarians and researchers to optimize animal husbandry practices
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- Associate degree in Animal Science, Veterinary Technology, or a related field
- 1+ years of experience in a laboratory animal care setting or veterinary environment
- Knowledge of animal husbandry, behavior, and health care practices
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow protocols accurately
Preferred:
- Bachelor's degree in Animal Science, Biology, or a related field
- Experience with a variety of laboratory animal species
- Certification from the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS) or equivalent
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Familiarity with laboratory animal care regulations and best practices
- Experience with record-keeping software and data management systems
- Basic understanding of veterinary medical terminology
