Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Animal Facility Manager to oversee the daily operations of our state-of-the-art facility. In this role, you will ensure the highest standards of animal care, compliance with regulatory requirements, and effective management of resources. Your leadership will be crucial in fostering a safe, humane, and productive environment for both animals and staff.
Responsibilities
- Manage all aspects of animal husbandry, ensuring proper care, feeding, and housing of animals in accordance with established protocols.
- Develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) that comply with federal, state, and institutional regulations.
- Supervise and train facility staff, promoting a culture of safety and excellence in animal care.
- Coordinate with researchers and other stakeholders to facilitate animal usage for scientific research while ensuring ethical standards are met.
- Maintain accurate records of animal inventories, health status, and facility operations.
- Oversee the management of budgets and resources for the facility, ensuring cost-effective operations.
- Participate in inspections and audits by regulatory agencies, addressing any findings or recommendations promptly.
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- Master's degree in Animal Science, Veterinary Medicine, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in animal facility management or a similar role, with a strong understanding of animal welfare standards.
- Proven leadership skills, with the ability to manage and mentor a diverse team.
- In-depth knowledge of regulatory requirements governing animal research.
Preferred:
- Certification from the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS).
- Experience with facility design and management in a research setting.
- Familiarity with bioethics and humane animal research practices.
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Proficient in data management systems for tracking animal care and facility operations.
- Experience with animal health monitoring technologies and procedures.
- Strong understanding of laboratory animal science and veterinary practices.
