Role Overview
We are seeking a Lead Guide Dog Mobility Instructor to join our dedicated team, focused on providing high-quality training and support for guide dog users. In this pivotal role, you will lead the development and implementation of training programs, ensuring that our guide dogs are well-prepared to assist individuals with visual impairments in achieving greater independence and mobility.
Responsibilities
- Design and oversee comprehensive training programs for guide dog instructors and trainees, incorporating best practices in animal behavior and mobility instruction.
- Conduct evaluations of guide dogs and their handlers, providing constructive feedback and guidance to enhance skills and confidence.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop resources and materials that support effective training and education for guide dog users and instructors.
- Lead workshops and seminars aimed at educating the public, stakeholders, and potential guide dog users about the benefits of guide dogs.
- Manage relationships with local organizations and community partners to promote awareness and understanding of guide dog mobility services.
- Mentor and develop junior instructors, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional growth within the organization.
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- 5+ years of experience as a guide dog instructor or in a related field, with a proven track record of successful training outcomes.
- Certification from an accredited guide dog training program.
- Strong understanding of canine behavior, training methodologies, and mobility instruction techniques.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage and educate diverse audiences.
Preferred:
- Experience in program development and management.
- Familiarity with assistive technologies for individuals with visual impairments.
- Background in animal welfare and advocacy.
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Proficient in using training management software and tools to track progress and outcomes.

Location
