Role Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and passionate Training Program Manager for our Seeing Eye Dogs initiative. In this role, you will lead the training efforts of our canine team, ensuring that each dog is expertly trained to provide the highest level of support and companionship to individuals who are visually impaired. You will oversee program development, implement training methodologies, and work closely with a team of trainers and volunteers to enhance our training curriculum.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement comprehensive training programs for Seeing Eye Dogs, focusing on obedience, mobility assistance, and socialization skills.
- Lead and mentor a team of trainers and volunteers, fostering a culture of excellence and compassion in dog training.
- Collaborate with veterinarians and behavioral specialists to ensure each dog's health and well-being throughout the training process.
- Develop and maintain program metrics to assess the effectiveness of training methodologies and outcomes.
- Conduct regular evaluations of both dogs and trainers, providing constructive feedback and guidance for continuous improvement.
- Engage with stakeholders, including clients and community partners, to promote the program and its impact on enhancing mobility and independence for visually impaired individuals.
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- 5+ years of experience in dog training or animal behavior, with a focus on service animals.
- Proven ability to develop and implement training programs that meet specific client needs.
- Strong leadership skills, with experience managing teams and facilitating training sessions.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships with clients and stakeholders.
Preferred:
- Certification from a recognized dog training organization (e.g., APDT, IAABC).
- Experience working with visually impaired individuals and understanding their specific challenges and needs.
- Familiarity with positive reinforcement training techniques and behavioral modification strategies.
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Deep knowledge of canine behavior, training methodologies, and animal welfare standards.
- Experience in developing training materials and resources for diverse audiences.
- Proficiency in using tracking and assessment tools to monitor training progress.
