Role Overview
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Assistant Guide Dog Instructor to join our organization. In this role, you will work closely with experienced instructors to support the training and development of guide dogs, ensuring they can provide optimal assistance to individuals with visual impairments. Your contributions will play a crucial role in enhancing the mobility and independence of our clients.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the training of guide dogs, focusing on obedience, socialization, and specific tasks to aid individuals with visual impairments.
- Support the development of training programs by collaborating with lead instructors to implement best practices.
- Observe and document each guide dog’s progress, providing feedback and insights to the training team.
- Engage with clients to understand their needs and preferences, ensuring the training aligns with their specific requirements.
- Participate in public demonstrations and educational outreach to promote awareness of guide dogs and their importance.
- Maintain a safe and nurturing environment for both dogs and clients throughout the training process.
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent; relevant experience in animal training, veterinary assistance, or related fields is preferred.
- Strong empathy and communication skills, with the ability to engage positively with clients and their families.
- Basic understanding of dog training principles and behavior.
Preferred:
- Experience working with guide dogs or other service animals.
- Certification in dog training or behavior from a recognized organization.
- Knowledge of mobility assistance technologies and tools.
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Familiarity with positive reinforcement training techniques and behavioral modification strategies.
- Experience with record-keeping software or tools for tracking training progress and client interactions.
- Basic computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
