Role Overview
We are seeking a strategic and visionary Director of Forest Fire Management to lead our comprehensive fire management initiatives. This role is pivotal in developing innovative approaches to prevent, manage, and mitigate forest fires, ensuring the protection of natural resources, community safety, and biodiversity. You will work closely with various stakeholders, including government agencies, non-profits, and local communities, to implement effective fire management policies and practices.
Responsibilities
- Develop and oversee strategic plans for forest fire management, including prevention, preparedness, response, and recovery strategies
- Lead a team of fire management professionals, providing mentorship, guidance, and support in their professional development
- Collaborate with local, state, and federal agencies to enhance inter-agency coordination and resource sharing
- Analyze fire data and trends to inform decision-making and policy development
- Advocate for and secure funding for fire management initiatives and research projects
- Engage with community stakeholders to foster partnerships and promote fire safety education
- Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and standards related to fire management
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- Master's degree in Environmental Science, Forestry, or a related field
- 10+ years of experience in forest fire management or a related discipline, with at least 5 years in a leadership role
- Proven track record of developing and implementing successful fire management programs
- Strong understanding of fire ecology, prevention strategies, and emergency management practices
Preferred:
- Ph.D. in a relevant field
- Experience with wildfire risk assessment and mitigation techniques
- Familiarity with the latest technologies and tools used in fire management, including GIS and remote sensing
