Role Overview
As the Director of Enology, you will oversee all aspects of winemaking processes, driving innovation and excellence in our production strategies. Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the winemaking team, fostering an environment of collaboration, creativity, and continuous improvement.
- Develop and implement enological practices that enhance product quality and consistency, ensuring compliance with industry regulations and standards.
- Oversee the entire winemaking process, from grape harvest through fermentation, aging, blending, and bottling, with a focus on innovation and sustainability.
- Collaborate with the viticulture team to optimize grape growing practices and ensure the best raw materials are utilized.
- Conduct sensory evaluations and oversee the development of blending strategies to create high-quality wines that meet market demands.
- Lead research initiatives to explore new winemaking techniques and technologies, enhancing the overall winemaking process.
- Manage budgets and resources effectively, ensuring operational efficiency and cost management.
- Engage with key stakeholders, including distributors and customers, to promote our wines and gather feedback for continuous improvement.
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- Master’s degree in Enology, Viticulture, or a related field.
- 8+ years of experience in winemaking, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
- Demonstrated expertise in all aspects of the winemaking process, from vineyard management to bottling.
- Strong analytical skills and experience with sensory evaluation methodologies.
- Proven ability to lead and inspire teams, driving a culture of excellence.
Preferred:
- Experience with organic or biodynamic winemaking practices.
- Familiarity with emerging wine markets and consumer trends.
- Published research or contributions to the field of enology.
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Deep understanding of fermentation science and the chemical processes involved in winemaking.
- Proficiency in using winemaking software for inventory management and production tracking.
- Experience with laboratory analysis techniques for monitoring wine quality.
