Role Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and passionate Assistant Enologist to join our winemaking team. In this role, you will support the Enologist in the production of high-quality wines, ensuring that all processes align with our commitment to excellence and sustainability. You will play a crucial role in the day-to-day operations of the winery, contributing to the crafting of exceptional wines.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the evaluation of grape quality and the selection of grapes for fermentation
- Participate in the fermentation process, including monitoring and managing fermentation temperatures, and ensuring proper yeast management
- Support the Enologist in conducting lab analyses to assess wine quality, including pH, acidity, and sugar levels
- Document and maintain records of all winemaking processes, including fermentation and blending
- Assist in the sensory evaluation of wines, providing input on flavor profiles and quality
- Collaborate with the production team to optimize processes and improve efficiency
- Help maintain a clean and organized work environment, adhering to safety and sanitation protocols
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Enology, Viticulture, Food Science, or a related field
- 1-2 years of experience in a winery or related environment, with a strong foundational understanding of winemaking processes
- Familiarity with laboratory equipment and wine chemistry analysis
- Strong attention to detail and a passion for wine quality
- Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends during peak seasons
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with large-scale wine production
- Knowledge of sustainable winemaking practices
- Familiarity with vineyard management and grape growing
- Proficiency in data management and record keeping
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Understanding of fermentation science and wine chemistry
- Experience with laboratory analysis tools (e.g., spectrophotometer, pH meters)
- Experience with winery management software is a plus
