Role Overview
We are seeking a visionary and experienced Director of Viticulture to lead our vineyard operations and elevate our sustainable farming practices. In this strategic role, you will oversee all aspects of viticulture, ensuring that our vineyards produce the highest quality grapes while aligning with our commitment to environmental stewardship and innovation.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement a comprehensive viticulture strategy that enhances grape quality and vineyard sustainability
- Lead a team of vineyard managers and agronomists, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement
- Manage vineyard operations, including planting, pruning, and harvesting, while optimizing resources and ensuring adherence to best practices
- Conduct regular assessments of grape quality and vineyard health, implementing corrective actions as necessary to meet production goals
- Collaborate with the winemaking team to align viticulture practices with wine production objectives and flavor profiles
- Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to evaluate vineyard performance and inform strategic decision-making
- Engage with external stakeholders, including agricultural partners and regulatory bodies, to advocate for sustainable viticulture practices
- Drive research and development initiatives aimed at improving vineyard resilience and adapting to climate change impacts
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- Master’s degree in Viticulture, Enology, Agriculture, or a related field
- 10+ years of experience in viticulture, with at least 5 years in a leadership role
- Proven track record of managing successful vineyard operations and driving quality improvements
- Strong knowledge of sustainable farming practices and vineyard management technologies
Preferred:
- Experience in organic or biodynamic viticulture
- Familiarity with precision agriculture tools and data analysis for vineyard management
- Strong network within the viticulture and wine industry
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Expertise in vineyard management systems, including GIS and remote sensing technologies
- Proficiency in data analysis software for monitoring vineyard performance
- Knowledge of pest management strategies and integrated pest management (IPM) practices
