Role Overview
We are seeking a strategic and passionate Wine Director to lead our wine program, curating an exceptional selection of wines that enhance our dining experience while driving revenue growth. This role will involve collaborating with culinary teams, managing supplier relationships, and crafting innovative wine pairings to elevate guest satisfaction.
Responsibilities
- Develop and oversee the wine program, including selection, sourcing, and pricing strategies
- Conduct regular tastings and training sessions for staff to enhance their wine knowledge and service skills
- Collaborate with chefs to create wine pairings that complement seasonal menus and special events
- Manage inventory, forecasting, and budget for wine purchases to optimize profitability
- Build and maintain strong relationships with wine suppliers and distributors
- Analyze sales data and customer preferences to refine the wine list and drive sales initiatives
- Stay updated on industry trends, emerging wines, and competitive offerings to keep the program innovative and appealing
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- 5+ years of experience in the wine industry, with a proven track record in a leadership role
- Strong knowledge of wine regions, varietals, and food pairing principles
- Certification from a recognized wine education program (e.g., WSET, CMS) or equivalent experience
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage with staff and guests
Preferred:
- Experience in a high-volume restaurant or hospitality setting
- Proven ability to develop and implement successful wine programs
- Familiarity with inventory management software and POS systems
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Proficiency in wine inventory management systems and spreadsheets
- Understanding of the financial aspects of wine purchasing and pricing
- Experience with menu development and pricing strategies
