Role Overview
We are looking for a strategic and experienced Director of Public Health Microbiology to lead our microbiology division. This role is critical in advancing our public health initiatives, focusing on infectious disease control, surveillance, and response strategies. As a senior leader, you will be responsible for developing innovative microbiological approaches, ensuring compliance with health regulations, and collaborating with governmental and health organizations to enhance public health outcomes.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the microbiology division, overseeing laboratory operations, staff performance, and resource allocation to ensure high-quality testing and analysis.
- Develop and implement strategic initiatives that align with public health priorities, focusing on infectious disease prevention and control.
- Coordinate with public health agencies to establish and enhance surveillance programs for monitoring and controlling infectious diseases.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant health regulations, laboratory standards, and biosafety protocols.
- Direct research initiatives to advance the field of microbiology and contribute to policy development, publications, and presentations.
- Foster a collaborative environment that promotes professional development, mentorship, and knowledge sharing among team members.
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- Ph.D. in Microbiology, Public Health, or a related field.
- 10+ years of experience in public health microbiology, including leadership roles in laboratory settings.
- Proven track record of developing and implementing public health strategies and programs.
- Strong understanding of regulatory requirements, laboratory accreditation processes, and biosafety standards.
Preferred:
- Experience working with governmental and non-governmental health organizations.
- Published research in peer-reviewed journals related to microbiology and public health.
- Demonstrated ability to secure funding for research projects and initiatives.
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- In-depth knowledge of microbiological testing methods, including PCR, culture techniques, and molecular diagnostics.
- Experience with data analysis tools and software relevant to public health and microbiology.
- Familiarity with laboratory information management systems (LIMS) and electronic health records (EHR).
