Role Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled Chief Barge Engineer to lead our engineering team in the management, maintenance, and operation of our barge fleet. This senior-level position requires a strategic thinker with extensive experience in marine engineering, capable of overseeing complex engineering projects and ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards. You will play a critical role in optimizing performance and reliability while providing mentorship to junior engineers.
Responsibilities
- Lead the engineering team in the design, construction, and maintenance of barges, ensuring adherence to industry standards and regulatory requirements.
- Develop and implement maintenance schedules and engineering protocols to enhance the operational efficiency and safety of the barge fleet.
- Conduct thorough inspections and assessments of barge systems and equipment, identifying areas for improvement and implementing corrective actions.
- Oversee the budgeting and procurement processes for engineering projects, ensuring cost-effective solutions while meeting quality standards.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimize operational strategies and ensure seamless integration of engineering solutions.
- Provide technical guidance and support to junior engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- 10+ years of experience in marine engineering, with a focus on barge operations and maintenance.
- Strong knowledge of marine engineering systems, including propulsion, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
- Proven track record of managing engineering projects and leading teams effectively.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to make informed decisions under pressure.
Preferred:
- Master's degree in a relevant engineering discipline.
- Experience with advanced technologies such as automation and remote monitoring systems.
- Certification in project management or a related field.
