Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Chief Tugboat Engineer to oversee the engineering operations and maintenance of our fleet of tugboats. In this pivotal role, you will ensure the reliability and efficiency of our vessels while leading a team of engineers and technicians. Your expertise will directly contribute to the safety and success of our maritime operations.
Responsibilities
- Lead the engineering team in the maintenance, repair, and operation of tugboats, ensuring compliance with safety and environmental regulations
- Develop and implement preventive maintenance programs to enhance vessel reliability and performance
- Oversee troubleshooting and repair of mechanical and electrical systems on tugboats
- Manage dry-docking and major repair projects, coordinating with external vendors and regulatory bodies
- Ensure accurate documentation of maintenance activities and compliance with regulatory requirements
- Provide training and mentorship to junior engineers and crew members, fostering a culture of safety and continuous improvement
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- 10+ years of experience in marine engineering, with a focus on tugboats or similar vessels
- Valid Chief Engineer License, STCW certification, and other relevant maritime certifications
- Proven leadership skills and experience managing a team of engineers
- Strong knowledge of marine propulsion systems, electrical systems, and safety protocols
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work under pressure
Preferred:
- Experience with hybrid or alternative fuel technologies in marine applications
- Familiarity with regulatory compliance and environmental sustainability practices
- Experience in project management and budgeting for marine operations
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Deep expertise in marine engineering principles and systems
- Experience with maintenance management software and systems
- Understanding of advanced propulsion technologies and energy efficiency measures
