Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced and visionary Director of Audio-Visual Collections to lead our efforts in managing and curating an extensive array of multimedia resources. In this fully remote role, you will oversee the strategic direction and operational management of our audio-visual collections, ensuring their preservation, accessibility, and integration into our broader educational initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement a comprehensive strategy for the acquisition, preservation, and access of audio-visual collections, aligning with the organization's mission and goals.
- Lead a team of curators and specialists, fostering an environment of creativity and collaboration while ensuring high standards of collection management.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate audio-visual materials into educational programs and outreach initiatives.
- Design and oversee digitization projects to enhance the accessibility and discoverability of collections.
- Establish and maintain partnerships with institutions, stakeholders, and community organizations to promote the use of audio-visual resources.
- Monitor industry trends and emerging technologies to innovate collection practices and improve user engagement.
Required Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Library Science, Information Science, or a related field.
- 8+ years of experience in audio-visual collections management or a related field, with a demonstrated record of leadership and strategic vision.
- Strong knowledge of archival principles, collection management standards, and digital asset management systems.
- Proven ability to develop and manage budgets, grants, and funding proposals.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse audiences.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in a leadership role within a cultural institution, library, or archive.
- Familiarity with emerging technologies in audio-visual preservation and access.
- Demonstrated experience in public outreach and community engagement initiatives.
- Knowledge of cataloging standards and metadata schemas relevant to audio-visual collections.
