Role Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and innovative Collections and Archives Manager to oversee the stewardship and management of our extensive collections and archival materials. This fully remote position will involve collaborating with cross-functional teams to enhance accessibility, promote preservation strategies, and ensure the integrity of our collections in alignment with our mission and values.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement strategic plans for the acquisition, preservation, and accessibility of collections and archives, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
- Lead efforts in cataloging and digitizing archival materials, enhancing discoverability and access for both internal and external stakeholders.
- Establish and maintain best practices for conservation and preservation techniques to safeguard the integrity of collections.
- Manage relationships with donors, partners, and community organizations to expand the scope and relevance of collections.
- Oversee the development and maintenance of collection management systems, ensuring data accuracy and compliance with standards.
- Provide training and support for staff and volunteers on collections care, archival practices, and cataloging procedures.
Required Qualifications
- Master's degree in Library Science, Archival Studies, History, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in collections management, archival practice, or related fields, with a proven track record of successful project management.
- Strong understanding of archival standards, metadata standards, and best practices in collection preservation.
- Demonstrated experience with digital asset management systems and archival software.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in developing outreach programs to engage diverse audiences with collections.
- Familiarity with grant writing and fundraising for collections initiatives.
- Knowledge of trends and technologies in the field of digital archiving and preservation.
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Proficiency in archival management software (e.g., ArchivesSpace, Omeka).
- Experience with digital asset management systems and online exhibit platforms.
- Familiarity with preservation techniques and materials.
