Role Overview
We are seeking a passionate and detail-oriented Assistant Collections Curator to join our team. This role is crucial in supporting the curation, preservation, and interpretation of our diverse collections, ensuring that they are accessible and engaging for our audiences. You will work closely with senior curators to assist in the development of exhibitions, educational programs, and collection management strategies.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the research and documentation of collection items, including provenance and historical context
- Support the planning and execution of exhibitions, including installation, labeling, and program development
- Help maintain the collection database, ensuring accurate records and updates
- Collaborate with colleagues on public programming and outreach efforts to enhance audience engagement
- Participate in collection preservation activities, including condition assessments and preventive care
- Contribute to grant proposals and funding applications to support collection initiatives
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Art History, Museum Studies, or a related field
- 1-2 years of experience in a museum or gallery setting, preferably in collections management or curation
- Strong research skills and ability to synthesize complex information
- Familiarity with collection management software and database systems
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in a related field
- Experience with exhibition design and installation
- Knowledge of conservation techniques and standards
- Proficiency in a second language
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel and PowerPoint
- Experience with collection management software (e.g., PastPerfect, TMS)
- Basic photography skills for documentation purposes
