Software Engineering Manager

The role as a Tech Lead/Engineering Manager will see you responsible for delivering leadership and solutions within a team of developers, ensuring the smooth delivery of business goals. You will be participating in the development and maintenance of a complex SaaS product with a significant sized system, with multiple integrations with external systems (using REST APIs). You will gain experience with a scaling product which is running around the globe for millions of users every second. We are using SOLID, automated, tested and simple solutions. 

Below are the key responsibilities for the role:

  • Instil best practice within a delivery team

  • Guiding the team in making decisions that are aligned with the companies strategic objectives

  • Being an escalation point for other developers

  • Lead/ contribute to discovery work where new technology or features are to be deployed

  • Planning of resources, workloads, priorities and outcomes

  • Out of the box thinking

  • Taking on more complex development tasks

  • Mentoring other developers and leading by example

Qualifications

  • PHP 7+ using clean code approach

  • Symfony (or similar MVC framework)

  • JavaScript/TypeScript

  • Single Page Applications (React for future development. Vue.js and Angular.js is beneficial for legacy systems)

  • MySQL (Redis, MongoDB and DynamoDB beneficial) 

  • Git

  • Jira and Confluence

  • Experience of managing an Agile / Scrum team

  • Confidently run and take part in Agile ceremonies

  • Ability to perform high level design and detailed design analysis and create relevant documentation

  • Desire to instil development best practice in the Software Delivery Lifecycle 

  • Ability to challenge - from estimates to code reviews

  • Excellent communications on both technical and non-technical subjects

Nice to have:

  • Cloud platforms and serverless architectures - we use AWS (Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB, IAM, EventBridge, SNS, SQS, S3, CDK)

  • Docker

  • Python

  • OWASP experience
