We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced consultant to support and contribute to the implementation of the System-Based Theory of Change related to the Asia-Africa BlueTech Superhighway project. The project aims to transform the lives of stakeholders in aquatic food systems across Africa and Asia, addressing the challenge of feeding 9.8 billion people by 2050 in a sustainable and climate-resilient manner. Your primary goal will be to work with WorldFish scientists and international partners in designing and conducting research to understand drivers of change and constraints (social, economic, environmental, institutional and policy) around Aquatic Food Systems within a system-based theory of change process.

Scope of Work

The consultant will provide support to the System-based Theory of Change (ToC) workshops and process that is taking place in WorldFish in relation to the AABS project in Bangladesh, Mozambique, Nigeria, Tanzania, and Kenya.

For carrying out the abovementioned activities, the consultant is expected to:

  • Analyze relevant documents made available from the county offices and the WorldFish Headquarters, such as ongoing and previous project documents and reports, previous ToCs documents, country strategic papers for fishery and aquaculture, and other relevant information and data (see deliverable 1)
  • Contribute to setting a methodology and provide support to the overall system-based ToC for the projects and for WPs in the different countries. (see deliverable 2).
  • Contribute to defining guidelines for developing a system-based theory of change in the space of aquatic food systems (see deliverable 3)
  • Contribute to publishing a scientific article on the methodology employed in the development of system-based theory of change workshops in various countries (see deliverable 4)
  • Contribute to a scientific article to summarize the data, knowledge, and information collected from the country's case studies. (see deliverable 5)
  • Contribute to a validation workshop and to summarize feedback and remarks to stakeholders (deliverable 6).
  • Contribute to a scientific article analyzing how to understand aquatic food system challenges and define interventions and impact assessment based on system theory of change processes (deliverable 7).

Requirements

Skills, Experience and Knowledge

  1. 10 years of project management experience in international agri-food systems.
  2. PhD in agricultural economics, agri-food supply chains or agricultural studies.
  3. Proven knowledge of systems thinking applications and participatory systems mapping in the agri-food sector.
  4. Excellent track record of publications. The relevance of the publications will be taken into consideration.
  5. Communication, mentorship, and teamwork skills in multicultural contexts.
  6. High degree of cultural sensitivity and proven record of effective working relationships in multi-disciplinary, diverse teams, particularly in developing countries.
  7. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work in multi-cultural and interdisciplinary teams.
  8. Excellent communication skills and high proficiency in written and spoken English.

The interviews are expected to be held in April 2024 and only shortlisted consultant will be notified and expected to attend the interview. The successful consultant should be available to commence the consultancy contract as soon as possible.
