About Watershed

Watershed is the enterprise sustainability platform. Companies like Airbnb, Carlyle Group, FedEx, Visa, and Dr. Martens use Watershed to manage climate and ESG data, produce audit-ready metrics for voluntary and regulatory reporting including CSRD, and drive real decarbonization. We are looking for team members who love product-building, want to work hard at a mission-oriented startup, and will collaborate with us in shaping the culture of a growing team.

We have offices in San Francisco, New York, London and Sydney, and remote team members across the US and Europe. We hope that you'll be interested in joining us!

The role

Watershed is on a mission to help companies measure, reduce, remove, and report their emissions. Our success is defined by the success of our customers — we’re looking to bring on a part-time technical writer to create technical product documentation for our core platform and execute a maintenance project across Watershed’s customer-facing knowledge base. You’ll work closely with Content Design and reps across the Product org to ensure our content is accurate, accessible, and aligned with our evolving strategy and standards.

You will:

  • Create a new set of technical product documentation articles that covers our core platform in collaboration with Engineering team in accessible and user-friendly way
  • Implement a comprehensive maintenance project of Watershed’s 200+ article knowledge base, specifically:
    • Updating product user guides for accuracy and quality. This involves collaborating with Product and Design teams and auditing relevant surfaces and documentation.
    • Contributing to content strategy and standards with Customer Education and Content Design to make updates in service of quality, organization, and consistency
    • Adding FAQs or supporting evidence in partnership with the Support team
  • Write, edit, and publish directly in our content management system
  • Weekly check-ins with our Content Design team

You might be a fit if you have:

  • Experience with technical documentation writing for software products and a proven ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly and concisely for a non-technical audience.
  • Strong writer, copyeditor, and reviewer that communicates and collaborates well with various cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Experience with contributing to and executing on content strategy, content design standards, information architecture, and organizational structure for large libraries of content and materials.
  • Comfortable editing and publishing directly in a content management system

FAQ

Where does Watershed work?

We have hub offices in San Francisco, New York and London, and some remote team members in the US and EU. Most of our jobs need to be in San Francisco / New York / London, but certain jobs are open to being remote and will be specifically noted on the jobs page and in the job description.

What’s the interview process like?

It starts the same for every candidate: getting to know the team members through 1 to 2 conversations about Watershed, your experience, and your interests. Next steps can vary by role, but usual next steps are a skill or experience screen (e.g. a coding interview for an engineer, a portfolio review for a designer, deeper experience call for other roles) which leads to a virtual or in person interview panel after that if the screens go well. We prioritize transparency and lack of surprise throughout the process.

What if I need accommodations for my interview?

At Watershed, we are dedicated to ensuring an inclusive recruitment process. We provide reasonable accommodations for candidates with disabilities, long-term conditions, mental health needs, religious observances, neurodivergence, or pregnancy-related support requirements. If you need assistance during your process, please contact your recruiter.

Climate change is humanity’s greatest challenge—and our greatest opportunity. We can approach it with fear and despair, or we can tackle it with ambition and optimism. We can view it as an obstacle to progress, or as an accelerant of prosperity.

At Watershed, we choose optimism. In the actions that businesses are taking to curb emissions and reduce climate risk, we see opportunity for a smarter, more resilient economy. In the new careers and markets being created, we see countless pathways to future growth. In the daily choices made by executives, investors, consumers, and corporate leaders to prioritize sustainability, we see a brighter future for future generations.

Watershed empowers companies around the world to take action on climate change by reducing their emissions. With intelligent analytics and industry-leading carbon data, Watershed customers have removed millions of tonnes of carbon from the Earth’s atmosphere—and we’re just getting started.

We are climate optimists and business pragmatists. We are building an economy where corporate sustainability delivers breakthrough business results. And, together with our customers and our partners, we are changing the story of climate change.

Our mission is to remove 500 megatonnes—equal to 1% of total global emissions—of carbon dioxide equivalent from Earth’s atmosphere every year by 2030. It’s an ambitious goal and a necessary one: we’re living in the critical decade for global climate action.

Through our customers, Watershed is now helping manage and reduce 360 megatonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent—more than the total annual emissions of the UK. That’s a lot of decarbonization potential.
