The Role

The Tides Center People Department is seeking a new Senior HR Business Partner to join its team of skilled, mission-driven HR practitioners. Organizations who partner with Tides Center receive our 501c(3) status, operational guidance, financial accounting, payroll and benefits services, grants management and HR consulting. The new Sr. HRBP will work in close partnership with Tides employees from the aforementioned departments to ensure that each nonprofit receives the support it needs to be successful.

The Sr. HR Business Partner is responsible for providing HR advisory services to a diverse portfolio of partners. The main areas of focus include complex employee relations and investigations, onboarding, management development, coaching, performance management, compensation, benefits, and compliance. This position also leads and collaborates on cross-functional teams to complete organizational projects, improve processes and procedures, and increase organizational effectiveness.

The Sr. HR Business Partner is responsible for uplifting and embodying Tides core values and JEDI (Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion) principles. Tides’ impact goal to shift and strengthen power to those communities and leaders who have been historically denied power is integral to the work of the Tides Center People Team. To that end, Tides is seeking a Sr. HR Business Partner who has both the HR expertise and an understanding of how systems of oppression show up in the workplace to support staff at all levels.

What you will Do

  • Delivers strategic, high-quality, and hands-on HR advisory services to an assigned portfolio of nonprofit partners across the U.S.
  • Serves as a trusted coach and thought partner to leaders and employees across multiple organizations.
  • Conducts complex investigations in alignment with Tides investigation protocols; interviews relevant parties and generates investigate reports with findings and conclusions.
  • Oversees and shepherds all Leave of Absence (LOA) work across the assigned portfolio.
  • Advises on performance management, including annual reviews and performance counseling.
  • Manages a variety of functions including onboarding, employee relations, performance management, compensation and benefits, compliance and general policies and procedures.
  • Effectively addresses questions resolves employee issues using good judgment, applicable policies, HR best practices, and conflict resolution strategies.
  • Interprets, develops and implements HR policies and procedures based on partner needs.
  • Reviews and approves job descriptions to ensure clarity and compliance with FLSA exemptions and organizational policies
  • Ensures compliance with organizational policies, as well as federal, state and local regulations.
  • Approves requests such as hires, terminations and employment change.
  • In partnership with the Director, People for Tides Center, support the development of new or enhanced offerings for partners.
  • Analyzes current business processes, identifies inefficiencies and recommends solutions and improvements.
  • Provides People representation on cross-departmental initiatives such as assessments, pilots, and other cross-functional team projects to advance departmental and organizational goals.
  • Develops new tools and resources for the People team as well as partners.
  • Resolves or escalates issues of concern when raised by partners or internal stakeholders in a timely and proactive manner.
  • Supports in the development and implementation of partner feedback, evaluation and tracking systems to measure and report on partners’ impact.
  • Ensures partner transitions (incoming and outgoing) and ensures effective People services throughout the process.
  • Contributes content to the monthly Digest based on subject matter expertise and interest areas.

What you will Bring

  • Strong working knowledge of Human Resource best practices as well as federal, state, local laws.
  • Demonstrated track record of effectively advising and coaching people leaders and employees on a wide range of complex HR matters.
  • The ideal candidate will be comfortable collaborating with cross-functional teams to achieve the organization’s strategic goals and has the ability to adapt and thrive in a dynamic and fluid workplace working environment.
  • Ability to balance competing demands and address the conflicting needs of a multi-customer based constituency with tact, diplomacy and kindness.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills to collaborate with others, provide high-quality service to partners, and ensure outcomes on aligned goals.
  • Ability to speak clearly and persuasively regarding sometimes challenging employment matters.
  • Ability to cooperate and work collaboratively toward solutions that generally benefit all parties.
  • Demonstrated ability to hold information confidential with excellent judgment.
  • Acts with integrity, empathy, curiosity and transparency
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to coach, influence, and partner with various levels of employees.
  • Strong analytical, investigatory and research skills.
  • Preferred:
  • Experience managing clients and delivering HR services including mitigating challenges, balancing compliance and client needs.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Organizational Development or related work experience.
  • 7+ years of relevant experience, managing all facets of Human Resources.
  • 5+ years of experience in the social/nonprofit sector.
  • Preferred:
  • Master’s degree in Human Resources, Organizational Development or other related field.
  • PHR/SPHR certification.

Compensation

Tides is committed to providing a competitive compensation package. We value pay equity and account for factors such as your location within the U.S., your skills and your relevant experience, and we will not ask for your salary history. Your starting salary will fall into one of three ranges, depending on your location:

  • National market: $95,300 - $119,100 (Most U.S. states)
  • Moderate market: $103,900 - $129,900 (Chicago, Los Angeles, Washington D.C. metro areas)
  • High market: $114,400 - $143,00 (New York City & San Francisco metro areas)
