The Practice Accountant will oversee all aspects of a small, general practice specialising in sports, media, and entertainment. This includes accounting (both statutory and management), tax services (covering personal, corporate, and VAT), business management services, and providing ad hoc advisory services. The role involves undertaking, managing, and delivering work to the practice owner.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and review federal, state, and local tax returns for individuals, corporations, partnerships, and trusts.
- Assist with tax planning and research to provide strategic tax advice to clients.
- Ensure compliance with all tax regulations and stay updated on changes in tax legislation.
- Conduct thorough reviews of financial statements and related tax documents.
- Communicate with clients to gather necessary information and clarify tax-related issues.
- Assist with IRS and state tax audits, including gathering information and responding to inquiries.
- Support senior tax professionals in managing client relationships and delivering high-quality service.
- Utilize tax software and other tools to efficiently complete tax-related tasks.
- Participate in continuous professional development to enhance technical tax knowledge and skills.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- CPA certification or progress towards obtaining CPA certification preferred.
- 1-3 years of experience in tax preparation and compliance, preferably in a public accounting firm.
- Strong understanding of US federal and state tax laws and regulations.
- Proficiency in tax software (e.g., ProSystem fx, UltraTax, or similar) and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
