About TGRICO
What started with a vision to give back has grown into a foundation that empowers students to discover their passions and create a brighter future. Founded in 1996 by Tiger Woods and his father, Earl Woods, the TGR Foundation was initially established to create and support community-based programs aimed at improving the health, education, and welfare of children in America. The charity's early days involved junior golf clinics where Tiger Woods introduced the basics of the game to inner-city kids. However, a pivotal moment came in 2001, following the events of September 11th. This led Woods to reimagine his foundation as a hub for STEM education for youth from under-resourced communities. This vision materialized with the opening of the flagship TGR Learning Lab in Anaheim, California, in 2006. This 35,000-square-foot facility was designed as a safe and inspiring space for young people to learn, grow, and pursue their dreams.
Over the years, TGR Foundation has expanded its reach and impact significantly. The TGR Learning Lab in Anaheim has served as a model, providing hands-on learning experiences in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM), alongside college access and career readiness programs. The success of the Anaheim lab paved the way for further expansion, with new TGR Learning Labs developed in Philadelphia, in partnership with the Cobbs Creek Foundation, and Los Angeles, in collaboration with the Kimmelman Family Foundation and USTA. Beyond the Learning Labs, the Foundation established the Earl Woods Scholar Program in 2006, honoring Tiger's father. This program offers comprehensive support to first-generation college students, including scholarships, mentorship, and career development opportunities. TGR Foundation's commitment to education also extends to educators through professional development programs. Through its various initiatives, TGR Foundation has impacted the lives of nearly 200,000 students, helping them gain the knowledge, confidence, and tools needed to unleash their potential. The foundation's work is fueled by fundraising events managed by TGR Live, ensuring that proceeds directly support its mission to empower students through education.
