There are two types of experience being considered for this role: Experience that is directly relevant to the role and Total Working Experience, in all fields. This includes: internships and consulting work. In collaboration with the hiring manager, the People and Culture team calculates experience based on the candidate’s most current resume. When calculating the offer, consideration is given to candidates that possess additional qualifications (i.e., desired qualifications). Teaching Lab will generally cap salaries for new employees at 105% of the midpoint to allow for continued growth in the role over time.

SUMMARY OF POSITIONThe Director of Facilitation Development at Teaching Lab is responsible for increasing the facilitation skills and competencies for 150+ facilitators and coaches hired by Teaching Lab to deliver professional learning services to school system leaders and teachers. The Director plays a crucial role in enhancing the quality of teaching and learning experiences for 10,000+ educators and 1 million students across all of Teaching Lab’s partner school systems. The core duties include formulating and executing facilitation skill enhancement strategies, designing and implementing content to enhance facilitation skills, and strategically using data to improve programmatic and operational aspects of the work. This role requires significant cross-functional collaboration with multiple departments within the organization and interactions with all of our facilitators and coaches.
At Teaching Lab, facilitation encompasses a spectrum of tasks, including delivering professional learning, coaching, and administering feedback. In collaboration with internal teams, the Director ensures facilitators are empowered with essential skills and resources for continuous improvement. Success in this role will be illustrated by fostering a culture of development, supporting the establishment of Teaching Lab as a premier facilitator development organization, and shifting the paradigm of professional learning in pursuit of educational equity.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Primary responsibilities for the Director, Facilitation Development include:

  • Facilitation Competency Program Management
  • Contribute toward Teaching Lab’s goals, particularly increasing teacher and student learning, scaling facilitation quality, and certifying facilitators into tiers.
  • Observe facilitation, record ratings for competencies, and provide competency-aligned feedback to increase facilitation effectiveness.
  • Spearhead the development and execution of a comprehensive professional learning plan for facilitators that is aligned with organizational needs, competency frameworks and certification tiers.
  • Lead the design, curation, and implement a range of development activities and training content to bolster facilitation skills, leveraging technology and innovative practices.
  • Plan and manage a diverse calendar of development opportunities, including workshops, coaching sessions, and professional learning communities, tailored to facilitators' varying levels of experience.
  • Model exemplary practices in professional learning facilitation, and mentor new facilitators, ensuring continuous skill enhancement and adherence to best practices.

  • Facilitator Systems and Structures
  • Drive improvements in facilitation quality, development, and impact through meticulous data analysis, reporting, and integration of technological solutions.
  • Cross-functionally collaborate to provide recommendations for facilitator succession planning
  • Lead efforts in knowledge management, ensuring facilitators have easy access to up-to-date resources and learning tools.
  • Support the facilitation certification program, focusing on assessment, branding, and strategic development.
  • Collaboration with the People & Culture team to create development pathways are curated within LinkedIn Learning and proper access is provided to facilitators.
  • Maintain all facilitation development resources, materials, and data in a centralized and accessible platform, like Canvas.
  • Explore innovative and efficient ways of managing and disseminating knowledge to facilitators to enhance learning experiences.

  • Collaboration and Continuous Improvement
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, engaging with diverse teams across the organization to enhance the Facilitation Program and its alignment with Teaching Lab's strategic objectives.
  • Continuously gather and integrate feedback from facilitators, coaches, and participants to inform program enhancements.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with external partners and stakeholders, representing Teaching Lab at industry events and forums.
  • Support other members of the Facilitation Program to plan and execute all aspects of the program, including but not limited to hiring, onboarding, and staffing, engagements, communications, and development opportunities.
  • Regularly engage with Project Leads and Client Partnership Managers on the Program team to: share updates from the Facilitation Program; ensure coaches and facilitators receive support to be ready for client services Identify opportunities for collaboration between the Facilitation Program and the Program division ; leverage and triangulate data collected from other departments across the organization to inform decisions about facilitation development
  • Utilize strong, detail-oriented, differentiated communication methods to ensure coherence and clarity across multiple teams.
  • Develop and conduct targeted training programs for cross-functional teams to elevate facilitation skills and promote professional growth.

  • Remain current on industry trends, research, and best practices in professional learning and facilitation.
  • Actively participate in and facilitate learning opportunities focused on project management, adult learning principles, and competency development, both for self-improvement and team enhancement.
  • Research and subscribe to relevant databases or services with evidence-based content on facilitation improvement.
  • Represent Teaching Lab at conferences, workshops, and onsite meetings, engaging with educators, policymakers, and other stakeholders to promote our mission and service.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Knowledge of adult learning practices
  • Five (5) or more years successful experience developing or directing professional development programs and activities
  • Experience using, implementing, managing a learning management system (LMS)
  • Experience linking development activities and training to company goals to improve performance outcomes
  • Knowledge of evidence-based instructional design for virtual and in-person learning
  • Three (3) or more years combined experience leading or high-impact professional learning for educators or instructional coaching (in any subject area)
  • Experience in project management and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring timely program milestones and objectives delivery
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong professional judgment and confidentiality of sensitive informationIndependent problem solving and critical thinking
  • Innovation
  • Proficient with Google Suite, Microsoft Office Suite, and at least one project management system (monday.com, Asana, etc.)
