Senior Legal Counsel (Litigation)

Now we are looking for a Senior Legal Counsel to handle our portfolio of disputes and investigations.

What You Will Be Doing:

• Managing cross-border litigation and arbitration for Sumsub group companies as in-house case manager.
• Advising and negotiating with internal stakeholders (legal and business alike) on minimising the risk of litigation and investigations in Sumsub’s operations.
• Instructing, negotiating and generally liaising with outside counsel on contentious and potentially contentious matters.
• Advising on and managing Sumsub’s response to requests for information from law enforcement agencies, subpoenas, summonses and similar.
• Preparing and developing internal policies governing matters relevant to the handling of litigation and investigations at Sumsub.
  
  Depending on your qualifications, admissions and the needs of the group at a given time, the position may also involve directly acting in arbitration for the group companies, drafting submissions, preparing evidence, etc.
  
  The position reports to a Deputy Chief Legal Officer.

About You:

Must have

• You have 5 or more years of experience handling litigation in common law jurisdictions (especially England and the United States).
• You have handled ediscovery/edisclosure in an in-house environment.
• You have experience handling and processing summons, subpoenas, requests for information from law enforcement agencies around the world.
• You know how to draft briefs/submissions in a clear and concise way, without fluff and unneeded hyperbole.
• You are admitted or have a clear plan for admission in England and Wales or in a US state within the next 1.5 – 2 years.
• Knowledge of international and domestic arbitration frameworks, experience acting in arbitrations.

Nice to have

• Knowledge of principles of conflict of laws and conflict of jurisdictions.
• Fluency in Russian, German, Greek or Portuguese.
• A mix of law firm and in-house experience (this does not include secondments as part of training with law firms).
• Experience handling litigation in civil law jurisdictions (especially EMEA and Latin America).
• Experience in intellectual property and employment litigation.
• Knowledge of the legal framework for white-collar crime in EMEA, United Kingdom and the United States.
