Job Summary:
The Apprentice Electrician supports the installation, maintenance, repair, and design of various electrical systems. This role assists in determining material requirements, reviewing specifications and drawings, laying out system designs, and testing electrical patterns. The Apprentice Electrician may also retrofit equipment with updated controls to improve performance and efficiency. This position reports directly to the I&E Superintendent.
Primary Job Functions:
- Conduct electrical tests, identify issues, isolate problems, and replace damaged wiring or components.
- Perform physically demanding tasks such as lifting/moving heavy materials and digging trenches for conduit installation.
- Support basic electrical system installations, including bending conduit, installing supports and raceways, setting cable tray, installing grounding systems, pulling cable, and assisting as directed.
- Read and interpret electrical drawings accurately.
- Safely lift up to 50 lbs. to support material movement during installation.
Experience:
- Entry-level experience or knowledge in commercial electrical installation, maintenance, and repair.
Education & Training:
- High School Diploma required.
- Valid Apprentice Electrician license for the state in which work is performed.
Competencies:
- Basic proficiency in electrical installation, maintenance, and repair across various settings.
- Reliable and punctual, reporting to assigned job sites as scheduled.
- Strong understanding and adherence to Strike’s safety requirements, OSHA standards, and all NEC, state, and local codes.
- Take pride in workmanship and maintain a high standard of quality.
- Ability to visualize completed work before installation and planning, organize, and schedule tasks effectively to meet deadlines.
- Demonstrates proper and safe use of tools, equipment, and materials.
- Sets up and verify field devices and controls for accurate installation and customer acceptance.
- Reads and understands labels, manuals, site maps, directions, and written instructions with accuracy.
- Knowledgeable in hand signals for equipment operators and the effects of soil on underground installations.
- Capable training and directing helpers or junior apprentices as needed.
- Maintains personal hand tools in accordance with Strike’s policies.
- Able to work safely around live/energized electrical parts.
- Strong manual dexterity, hand–eye coordination, and the ability to distinguish wire colors.
- Effective communicator with solid problem-solving abilities.
- Familiarity with electrical tools, equipment, and machinery used in various settings.
